USAN deepwater pile driving

USAN

Located on Block OPL 222 in the Gulf of Guinea, offshore Nigeria, Africa, is the Usan field. The field is situated in water depths ranging from 2,461 to 2,789 feet (750 to 850 meters), and has proven and probable reserves of 500 million barrels of oil.

Discovered in 2002, the discovery well was drilled to a depth of 8,940 feet (2,725 meters), and is situated roughly 60 miles (97 kilometers) off the coast of Nigeria. The well was drilled by Saipem's semisubmersible, Scarabeo 7.

The field was also confirmed by two appraisal wells, which revealed light, crude oil in multiple pay zones. In 2004, a western extension of the field was confirmed by the drilling of the Usan 5 and 6 wells. In 2005, an eastern extension was discovered on the Usan field when an additional two extension wells, Usan 7 and 8, were drilled.
