Genesis SPAR

The Genesis field, located in deepwater Gulf of Mexico, 150 miles (241 kilometers) southwest of New Orleans, La., is situated on Green Canyon Blocks 160, 161 and 205. The field lies in the Viosca Knoll Carbonate trend in 2,600 feet (792 meters) of water. Recoverable reserves are estimated in excess of 160 MMboe, producing for more than 15 to 20 years.

Genesis is operated and 57% owned by Chevron; Exxon holds 38.38% interest; and PetroFina Delaware Inc. has the remaining 4.95%.

Exploratory wells were drilled using the deepwater semisub Diamond Ocean Quest, which is capable of drilling in waters up to 3,000 feet (914 meters) deep. Field development plans for the project cleared final joint-owner approvals in June 1996. The cost of building the facility and development drilling of the project is estimated at $750 million.
