Front Runner SPAR
Front Runner SPAR
Project Overview
Year:
2003
Location/Region:
North America / Gulf of Mexico
Murphy Oil’s Front Runner SPAR is another successful mooring system installed with MENCK’s unique Deepwater Pile Driving System. MENCK was contracted by US based J. Ray McDermott to provide pile driving services to install 9 anchor piles of 84 in O.D. and a length of 232 ft using the hydraulic pile hammer MHU 500T and an MUP (MENCK Underwater Power pack) The Front Runner installation showed that it is technically feasible and economically attractive to use lower spec marine assets such as J. Ray McDermott’s DB-16. MENCK’s service team, responsible for the installation and operation of the equipment, completed the driving including lowering and surfacing of the Pile Driving System in less than half a day per pile.
